Planar Lamp

This task lamp takes inspiration from the flexion and warpability of plane, combining offset cantilevers and visually-heavy forms to create an unparalleled visual experience.

Working in the Modernist tradition, a single piece of uninterrupted material is utilized to minimize parts. This cantilevered frame supports a suspended bracket and acrylic shade.
Dark American walnut contrasts with "cloudy" aluminum and frosted acrylic to reflect and refract the cast light, creating a moody emotional experience.

The cutout form is meant to cast unique, arching shadows on the wall behind which adds to the emotional experience.
I sought to explore unobtrusive forms and design for disassembly; the shade is removeable from the main body of the lamp which yields access to the lighting element.
